Antonio Conte says he may resign as Tottenham Hotspur manager after questioning if he is the right man for the job following the club’s fourth defeat in five games.
Spurs manager Antonio Conte claimed his team was playing like relegation candidates after they lost for the fourth time in five Premier League games at Burnley on Wednesday night.
‘I need to speak with the club,’ Conte stated. ‘I am too honest to continue in this manner while yet taking my wage.’ I wish to accept responsibility for my actions. Because I want to help Tottenham, I am open to any decision.’
‘This is the first time in my life that I’ve had four defeats in five games.’ This is inexcusable.’ I came in to attempt to fix the situation with Tottenham. But I’m not sure I’m up to it right now.’
‘I’m trying everything I can to fix the situation, but it’s not working.’
‘Someone needs to say something about the contest for fourth place, and the fact from the last five games is that we have to be careful not to fall into the relegation zone.’
‘This is the truth, this is the reality, and when something like this happens, something is wrong.’
‘I’m too honest to continue to say, “OK, I want to end the season this way, and OK, my money is good,” while closing my eyes. I’d like to conduct an evaluation with the club.’
Additionally, Conte regarded the result against Burnley as a “disaster” in a separate interview. He said, ‘this is a complete disaster. For a club like Tottenham, it’s a tragedy. ‘It suggests that, unfortunately, things aren’t going well,’ he explained.
‘When I say I’m going to make an assessment, I’m going to have to talk to the club.’ I need to speak with the club to discuss and find a solution because, as I have stated, continuing in this manner is not acceptable.’
‘I came here to better the situation, but it is not improving at the time.’ I need to talk to the club about something. I am available for hire. I am available. This is a circumstance that I cannot accept. I don’t like losing three games in a row like this.’
