Gareth Bale Falls Out of Favor Again Under Mourinho
Jose Mourinho left out Gareth Bale in the Spur’s matchday squad to face Everton in the FA Cup as the event marks the latest blow for the Welshman since his return to North London.
Gareth Bale returned to great fanfare on loan from Real Madrid in the summer and hoped that his re-uniting with Spurs would be one of the greatest. However, the star has struggled under Mourinho who found no space for him in the squad that was to face Everton.
Bale was denied the chance to showcase his talent on Wednesday night. The reason being, Mourinho elected to leave him out and instead extended the olive branch to Dele Alli who routinely has also found himself out of favor.
“Gareth is not on the bench because he wasn’t happy with his training session yesterday”. Said Mourinho.
“I wouldn’t say an injury. Not at all. But some felt he wasn’t happy with, so it was better for him to stay back and to be working with the sports science guys”.
Upon agreeing his return to north London in the summer, Spurs agreed to pay in the region of £250,000 per week of his mammoth £600,000-per-week salary. And, there is an acknowledgment that Bale’s high-profile return has not provided value for the money.
Mourinho and staff are said to still be hopeful Bale’s form can improve for him to play a key role in the club’s run-in. But, the trust does not seem to have extended to even a place on the bench at Goodison Park on Wednesday.
As it is, Spurs are competing across four competitions and while Mourinho still needs all of his squad, patience seems to be wearing thin.
