Gareth Bale is not ready to play for Mourinho’s side
Gareth Bale has only played 160 minutes in the Premier League since his Tottenham return, and coach Jose Mourinho revealed that his players have to earn playing time through training. The head coach also explained that Bale lacks consistency in his workouts, and that once he manages to work out with no fitness problems, he will get more chance. “I can’t give the players minutes, minutes on the field is not what I can give, so I am not going in this direction,” said Mourinho. “We all know the challenges he had for a couple of years. We all know that he arrived injured. And we all know that even this season has been a little bit up and down with small things. The most crucial thing for him is to be consistent, train without any problem. And when the player is consistent in training, high intensity without any good problems, then the player is ready.”
“I don’t give minutes, but I’m ready to earn minutes. And that makes a difference for me. This week he works every minute, like everyone else, with good intensity, and let’s see how he reacts to the accumulation of this kind of work, and see how Bale reacts by the end of the week”. Gareth’s future remains uncertain as the Welshman has played only four of the 17 matches disputed by his team in the Premier League due to fitness problems. Real Madrid loanee will have to return to his parent club at the end of the season if Tottenham decide not to sign him on a permanent deal.
