Gary Neville has encouraged Frenkie de Jong, a Manchester United transfer target, to ‘take legal action’ against Barcelona.

Due to the Catalan club’s difficult financial condition, the Dutch midfielder, Frenkie de Jong is owed over £17 million in pay. With that in mind,  he has watched as Barcelona continues to make blockbuster additions in the summer transfer market.

The Nou Camp executives spent nearly £100 million for Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha earlier this month after receiving a cash boost from initial TV rights sales.

Barcelona have secured a second deal with Sixth Street to sell a further 15% of their TV rights, putting them ahead of Chelsea in the race for Jules Kounde.

Neville resorted to social media to criticize the Spanish giants for not repaying their current players with the inflow of cash.

The former Red Devils defender also advised De Jong, who has been a summer goal for Erik ten Hag, to pursue legal action against Barcelona.

‘De Jong should contemplate legal action against Barcelona, and all players should support him!’ he tweeted.

‘It is immoral and a breach of contract for a club to spend millions on new players while failing to pay its existing players in full’.

‘FIFPRO should be all over this bullying and put a stop to it.’

Barcelona and Manchester United agreed on a £63 million agreement for the former Ajax midfielder, but he refuses to leave until he receives the money owed to him by the club.

According to reports, the LaLiga giants initially asked De Jong to postpone £17 million in salary and have since attempted to address the situation by letting him to go in a £70 million-plus deal to Man United, but this would still leave him £10 million short.

In addition to Lewandowski and Raphinha, Barcelona has signed Franck Kessie and Andreas Christensen on free transfers.
