Gonzalo Higuain has expressed his desire for Lionel Messi, a former Argentina teammate, to join him in Major League Soccer.
Higuain, 34, joined Inter Miami from Juventus in September 2020 and is now in his second season in America.
Although the veteran argues that this perception is changing, MLS has traditionally been seen as a final chapter for world-class players before they retire.
He has also stated that Messi’s participation in the competition will benefit the competition’s global stature. Messi currently plays for Paris Saint-Germain.
‘It’s a really important league that is rapidly rising,’ Higuain said.
‘Important players are arriving, and I believe it will continue to expand significantly in the future.’
‘I hope [Messi] comes to MLS because it would be beneficial to MLS and the country, and he would have fun and be happy here if he so desired.’
Higuain’s high-profile transfer to Miami was viewed as a coup for both his club and the league.
Thierry Henry, Andrea Pirlo, Steven Gerrard, and David Villa have all made memorable trips to the United States in their later years.
Messi, on the other hand, has had a rocky start in France. In 22 appearances in all competitions for his new team, he has scored seven goals.
