Scotsman Souness branded 29-year-old Mohamed Salah greedy, describing the Liverpool star as the most selfish player he has ever seen.
A little about the topic
The Egyptian footballer has become one of the most prolific forwards in European football since signing with Liverpool in 2017, scoring 137 goals in 214 appearances for the Merseyside outfit. Twelve of these efforts were recorded at the start of the 2021-22 campaign, leading to Liverpool manager Klopp calling the Egyptian the best player in the world and Graeme Souness now offering his own mascot performer.
What did Souness say about Mohamed Salah?
The Enfield legend echoes the sentiments of Jurgen Klopp’s, while expressing his belief that Mohamed’s unanimity in the final third is what separates him from his peers. Graeme Souness wrote that he agreed with Klopp that Salah was the best player in the world this season. Mohamed Salah is possibly as greedy as he has seen. All the top names have an element of this, but Salah is extremely selfish.
Personal goals are important to Salah and he shoots from every possible angle, which at times frustrates his teammates – especially Sadio Mane. The rest of the players accept it because he’s so good. When he doesn’t match, he either scores or makes the goalkeepers work in such a way that the subsequent action is a sidebar for someone anyway, making it difficult for someone to criticize him. According to Graeme Souness, Mohamed Salah might even take it as a compliment that Souness considers him the most selfish player he has seen because he is a machine for goals.
Mohamed has insisted that he would like to see the remainder of his career in Liverpool, despite his ongoing ties with Real Madrid, however his current contract should only last until June 2023. The 29-year-old says the final decision on his future is out of his hands, and Graeme urged his former club to do whatever it takes to tie the Egyptian footballer to fresh terms.
Graeme Souness added that he will not speculate on what Mohamed Salah is asking for, but that Liverpool must give it to him. It is in their best interest to pay him as much as they can afford, and to keep Mohamed at the club, where he clearly had the best period of his career.
