Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka will likely be unavailable until Christmas, but the club insists the Swiss international will not need surgery.

Arsenal got hit

The Gunners were seriously injured after the news that Xhaka was ruled out with a knee problem. Granit was a key man under Arteta, and helped the Gunners begin to reverse their early form of the season with a string of impressive performances, including their 3-1 win over North London rivals Tottenham over the weekend. Sadly, the 29-year-old also suffered a serious injury during this competition and should now be out of action before Christmas, but Arsenal says he won’t need surgery.

Arsenal’s statement on Granit Xhaka

A statement on Arsenal’s website states that further to the injury to his right knee during Sunday’s match against Tottenham, scores and scans confirmed that Xhaka suffered significant medial knee ligament injury. A specialist consultation took place in London on Tuesday evening, which determined that Xhaka did not require surgery. Xhaka’s recovery and rehabilitation program will begin immediately, and they aim to get him back into action in about three months. Everyone at the club will now support and work hard with Xhaka to get him back on the field as soon as possible.

A little about the topic

The Swiss international was caught falling Moura after a Partey projectile and was due to receive medical help from the field after receiving extended field treatment during a game at Emirates Stadium on Sunday. Mikel Arteta told his post-match press conference on the severity of Granit Xhaka’s injury that Mikel is quite worried because it doesn’t look very positive at the moment.

While at times a relaxed figure among Arsenal fans, Granit is one of only three players to start and triumph in the 2017 and 2020 FA Cup finals, and his position at the club has secured him a new three-year deal this year. However, he will now miss a significant portion of the Premier League season, and will also be absent from the upcoming World Cup 2022 qualifiers in Switzerland.
