Haaland didn’t even make it into the top 20 most expensive transfers in the Premier League

Buying a Norwegian is not even in the top 20 in terms of cost in the history of the Premier League. Even in the context of City, this is only ninth place.  It’s time to remember how things are going for those who cost more than Erling.

Jack Grealish

The most controversial deal in recent years. Man City paid space money for Jack and instead of a bright leader, they got another visitor in the rotation. Pep does not rush Grealish and gives time to adapt to the system, so there is time to play. The Englishman could have saved the season with one match at the Bernabéu, but Thibaut Courtois’ foot intervened.

Romelu Lukaku at Chelsea

Over the past six months, a lot of problems have accumulated around Chelsea. Lukaku’s difficult adaptation after returning is one of the main ones. Romelu wants to join Inter and gives scandalous interviews, but doesn’t score much and can’t find a place in Tuchel’s system. Whether a Belgian is needed in London under Thomas is a very difficult question. And the amount of the transfer only complicates everything. 

Paul Pogba

Manchester United spared no expense for Juventus and returned Pogba (played in the youth team) as one of the main players in the world. Six years have passed and United are constantly surrounded by rumors about the transfer of the Frenchman to another club. Pogba could very well come back to Juventus this summer.

Harry Maguire

The magic that happened to Liverpool and Virgil van Dijk after the transfer from Southampton was expected from the transfer of Maguire from Leicester. It doesn’t work out – for three seasons in Manchester, Maguire did not become the new Rio Ferdinand. Many people laugh at the captain of United, and after the arrival of Ten Hag and the purchase of a new defender, Harry can even sit in a deaf reserve.

Jadon Sancho

Sancho came only in the summer of 2021 and so far does not match the investment at all. Jadon, 22, has good excuses: he has never played in the Premier League before and the team is too unstable for the young player to adapt. Still ahead – but the Englishman’s debut season for Manchester United looks depressing.

Romelu Lukaku at Manchester United

Lukaku is twice on this list. Manchester United bought Everton’s top striker and expected goals from Romelu. The Belgian tried not to disappoint, but the period at United turned out to be so-so, because the player got rid of excess weight only after moving to Italy.

Virgil Van Dijk

It is worth saying thanks to Barcelona for not sparing huge money on Philippe Coutinho and helping Liverpool to overpower the transfer of Virgil van Dijk. This Dutchman from Southampton glued together Klopp’s troubled defense and became the best defender in the world.

Kai Havertz

A decent part of the first season, Kai Havertz was just looking for a place on the field. Nevertheless, they found it – a false nine in Tuchel’s scheme without clean forwards. And for some, Kai has already justified his price tag by scoring the winning goal in the Champions League final.

Nicolas Pepe

In 2019, Arsenal spared no expense on Nicolas Pepe from Lille and believed in the young winger who broke Ligue 1. It seemed that Pepe would become the leader, but so far everything hints that Mikel Arteta’s young team is playing well without the Ivorian.
