Cricket“Nobody told me the reasons”- Hanuma Vihari on being dropped from Indian squad

Team India has reached the finals of the World Test Championship two times and ended up as runner-ups both times, so this time the team will be hoping for a change in their fortunes as they move into the new cycle. The team is currently playing the first match of a two-match test series against the West Indies, and it would not be wrong to consider them favourites given the star-studded lineup. Two players, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ishan Kishan, have also made their debuts in the test, while Jaydev Unadkat, another name who is back in the squad after a long gap, looks to be leading the Indian pace attack. However, there are a few names who made noteworthy contributions for the team but are no longer on the selection radar. Hanuma Vihari is one of them.

Hanuma Vihari was part of the team in the inaugural edition of the WTC cycle but was hardly considered in the previous cycle. First, he was dropped from the home test series against New Zealand but made a return when India hosted Sri Lanka in the next series. After this, he played two matches at home and the only test in England before disappearing again. Now that the new WTC cycle has begun, Vihari is nowhere seen in the squad lists, and he is currently busy in the Indian domestic circuit as the middle-order batsman, serving for South Zone in the ongoing Duleep Trophy.

Vihari was a little disappointed

Recently, Hanuma Vihari had a conversation with a media page where he stated that he was definitely disappointed and said, “I could not find any reason why I was dropped, and that was the only thing bothering me. In fact, no one contacted me or told me why I was dropped. He also stated that now he has made peace with the selection calls. It took him some time to go through the ups and downs, but now the 29-year-old is not worried about it. “I have put aside the personal things, and I do not stress too much about whether I am in the Indian squad or not. There are other matches to be won, and it is about winning trophies”. He concluded.

Currently, Hanuma Vihari is playing for the South Zone in the final match of the Duleep Trophy. In the first inning, Vihari scored 63 runs off 130 balls and was the only top scorer for the team. Currently, West Zone is batting in their first inning and trailing by 118 runs. They have only lost one wicket so far.
