During the first Ashes between England and Australia, England’s all-rounder Moeen Ali, who came out of test retirement to lead the spin bowling attack in the team, bowled an amazing delivery to Cameron Green and got the wicket in the first innings. After a few hours, Moeen was seen in slight pain, due to which he used a dry agent on his hand while fielding at the boundary during the 89th over. This act was seen as a breach of rules for Players and Player Support Personnel by the umpires.

The former spinner posted a tweet

India’s former cricketer Harbhajan Singh couldn’t understand this and gave his reaction via tweet. This on-field activity by Moeen also sparked a debate on social media. As a former spinner, Harbhajan showed his support for England’s all-rounder and posted a notable tweet that said there is so much nonsense around Moeen Ali for using spray on his fingers just to numb the pain, and the only problem was that he should have informed the umpires, but if a batsman gets a bleb under his glove and sprays his hand, no one notices.

Harbhajan posted this tweet after Moeen Ali admitted this act and accepted the penalty proposed by Andy Pycroft. The umpires leveled the charge against Moeen Ali, and he received a demerit point on his disciplinary record for a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct. He was also fined 25 percent of his match fees from the first Ashes test against Australia. The same incident was seen two weeks back too when Umpires fined Ravindra Jadeja was using a spray on his hands, both Jadeja and Moeen were not aware of the rule so they were fined and both accepted the charges too.

Moeen Ali managed to take only three wickets in the first Ashes test. England gave a target of 281 runs to Australia, and during the second innings, the English men took three early wickets, but Australia’s star batter during the first innings, Usman Khawaja, remained on the field in the second innings too. England soon made a comeback as they dismissed Boland, Travis Head, and Cameron Green, and eventually Australia was eight wickets down. It was Aussie captain Pat Cummins, who, along with Nathon Lyon, carried the match till the end and scored 44 runs, winning the first Ashes match by just two wickets.
