India all-rounder Hardik Pandya said he is ready to take over the captaincy on a full-time basis after the team’s massive victory in the final of the T20I series against West Indies.

He has been very lucky as a captain and has impressed a lot. But full-time captaincy will be a big challenge and keeping in view the World Cup and Asia Cup, the board will also not want to make any change in the captaincy.

India, who rested regular skipper Rohit Sharma, registered a 4-1 victory in the series with an 88-run win at Lauderhill, Florida, on Sunday.

Pandya said it was a “very special feeling” to captain India and when asked if he is looking forward to the role in the future, the 28-year-old said: “Yeah, why not?

“If given a chance, I would be very happy to do it. But for now, we have the World Cup coming up, it’s about getting better as a team.”

Pandya is no stranger to leadership roles, captaining Gujarat Titans to the Indian Premier League title in his first season this year. He also led India to a 2–0 T20 series win against Ireland in June.

India have used seven captains in all three formats this year and Rohit said it is an encouraging sign for the team.

Rohit told broadcaster Star Sports, “I know it is very exciting to have so many leaders around the team… and you want people to handle the pressure, who understand the game and know each other well. ”

Rohit Sharma is also 35 years old in terms of age and India will feel the need of a young captain from next year. In such a situation, many well-known names will come up and among them the three faces will be Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant and Shreyas. It will be interesting to see in which player the board and the coach repose confidence.
