Harry Kane has accomplished a feat that sets him apart from Ronaldo and Messi, as the Tottenham Hotspur forward has once again scored 20 goals in a single season.
Harry Kane’s place among the greats
Harry Kane has once again proven his worth as a top-tier striker by scoring his 20th goal of the season in Tottenham‘s recent match against Chelsea. This achievement is all the more impressive as he has achieved this feat across nine consecutive seasons in Europe’s top five divisions, a feat only matched by Robert Lewandowski. In contrast, Cristiano Ronaldo is now playing in Saudi Arabia and will not be adding to his own impressive record, while Lionel Messi managed just 11 goals for Paris Saint-Germain during the 2021-22 season.
Kane has become Spurs’ all-time leading scorer in the current campaign, surpassing the legendary Jimmy Greaves. He is also on the verge of becoming England’s all-time leading scorer, needing just one more goal to overtake Wayne Rooney on the Three Lions’ all-time chart.
Harry Kane’s Past Performances
Harry Kane is one of the most prolific strikers in English football, having made a name for himself with his goalscoring exploits. The Tottenham Hotspur forward has been a key player for both club and country, with his performances earning him numerous accolades and awards.
Early Career and Breakthrough
Kane began his career with Tottenham Hotspur as a youth player, before being loaned out to several lower-league clubs. It was during his loan spell at Millwall that he made his professional debut and scored his first goal. He later returned to Tottenham, where he made his Premier League debut in August 2012.
It wasn’t until the 2014-15 season that Kane really announced himself as a force to be reckoned with. He scored 31 goals in all competitions, including 21 in the Premier League, earning him the Golden Boot award for the first time in his career. His performances also saw him named the PFA Young Player of the Year.
Consistent Performances
Kane continued to build on his success in the following seasons, becoming the first player in Premier League history to score at least 25 goals in three consecutive seasons. He won the Golden Boot award again in the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons, scoring 25 and 29 goals respectively. In addition to his impressive scoring record, Kane also became known for his leadership qualities and work rate on the pitch. He was appointed captain of Tottenham in 2017, and went on to lead the team to the Champions League final in 2019.
International Success
Kane’s performances at club level also earned him a regular place in the England national team. He made his debut in 2015, and scored his first international goal in a Euro 2016 qualifying match against Lithuania. He was later named the captain of the England team, leading them to the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Injuries
Despite his consistent performances over the years, Kane has had to deal with a number of injury setbacks. He missed significant portions of the 2016-17 and 2018-19 seasons due to ankle injuries, and has also struggled with hamstring and knee problems.
