Despite Kane’s impressive 23 goals in the Premier League this season, Tottenham has not won a trophy in the last 15 years, and the club’s fans are eager to see their team lift silverware once again.
In the 22 years, the Spurs have progressed enormously in a time period
Harry Kane, Tottenham’s captain and all-time top scorer has been linked with a summer move away from the club, but the chairman, Daniel Levy, believes Kane “can absolutely win a trophy at Spurs.” Despite Kane’s impressive 23 goals in the Premier League this season, Tottenham has not won a trophy in the last 15 years, and the club’s fans are eager to see their team lift silverware once again. Levy, who spoke in a rare interview, acknowledged the disappointment of the trophy-less run, saying that he’s happy they haven’t won more than one trophy in the past 15 years. Absolutely not. However, he also pointed out the progress the club has made during his tenure as chairman.
“In the 22 years, the Spurs have progressed enormously in that time period. Not as much, as a fan, we would hope – but, hopefully, the journey is not over, and we get that trophy we need.”
Kane has spent his entire senior career at Tottenham
The chairman also emphasized the importance of Kane to the club, calling him a legend and expressing his hope that there will one day be a statue of the striker outside Tottenham’s stadium. Kane has spent his entire senior career at Spurs, but with only one year left on his current deal, rumours have swirled about a possible move to Manchester United or Paris Saint-Germain. Levy’s comments come amid growing speculation about the long-term ownership of Tottenham, with talk of outside investment and prospective buyers preparing bids for the club. However, Levy stated that the club has not been in negotiations with anyone recently and that the duty to consider proposals lies with the club’s majority shareholder, ENIC, which owns approximately 87 per cent of the club. Levy also pointed out that Tottenham has 30,000 shareholders, most of whom are fans who own shares in the club.
Levy expressed pride in the club’s achievements and its fans
Despite Tottenham’s lack of silverware in recent years, Levy expressed pride in the club’s achievements and its fans. “When we first came into Tottenham, winning was making sure we stay in the Premier League. And then, as time goes on and we became more successful, it was about getting into the Europa League, getting into the UEFA Champions League, and, obviously, the ultimate is to win the trophies. That is clearly what we’re trying to do. It’s easier said than done.” Levy also addressed the fact that north London rivals Arsenal are currently above Spurs in the Premier League standings but pointed out that Tottenham has been above Arsenal in recent years as well.
He said, “Despite the fact I feel sick, there’s another club in north London that’s a bit higher than us at this moment in time; if I look back over the past five years, we’ve also been above them – so, it’s what happens.”
In conclusion, Levy emphasized that Tottenham is on a journey and that the club’s ultimate goal is to win trophies. He acknowledged the disappointment of the trophy-less run but expressed confidence that Kane and the team can bring success to the club.
