On May 23, Tuesday yellow brigade squad Chennai Super Kings defeated the defending champions Gujarat Titans by 15 runs in qualifier 1 and made their way to the Grand Finals. This is the tenth time CSK has reached the finals, which is a massive achievement for the team as well as their captain, MSD, who has been leading them since 2008.

MSD has been leading CSK since 2008

Batting first, CSK added 172 runs on the board, chasing them Gujarat Titans could only make 157 runs and got all out on the last ball of the day as well. One of the greatest cricketers and captains of all time, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been active in IPL since 2008, leading CSK, and has won four titles. There are speculations that this could be MSD’s last IPL, so the final in Ahmedabad would also be a special one. However, Chennai Super Kings former teammate and now bowling coach Dwayne Bravo believes that their excellent skipper is very unlikely to retire after the conclusion of IPL 2023. Bravo also assured the fans that the new impact player rule will help him extend his career further and give him a much-needed break in between the games, it will also help him stay fit for a longer time.

Bravo about MSD

Talking about Dhoni’s extraordinary captaincy, Bravo also said that his calm and composed nature helps the team in a great way. Dhoni is known for his cool nature and is also nicknamed “Captain Cool”. He is also the master of controlling the field, which helps the team put pressure on the opposition during crucial hours of the game. After CSK qualified for the finals, Bravo on Star Sports said, ” He will 100 percent return next year, especially with the impact player rule. He can keep prolonging his career. Our team bats really deep, and guys like Rahane and Shivam Dube make a huge difference, so you don’t require much from MS’s bat, but his ability to keep the team calm under pressure is unmatched.

Dhoni’s statement in the post-match presentation

In the post-match presentation, when Harsha Bhogle asked Dhoni about retirement plans, MSD again gave an interesting statement and said, “I have eight to nine months to decide , the auction will be around December, so why should I have the headache now? I have a lot of time to decide. But I will always be there for Chennai Super Kings, whether playing or sitting somewhere outside”.
