South Korean striker Son Heung-min explained why, despite stepping off the bench to score a hat-trick for the Spurs, his latest goal celebrations were a bit muted.

What did Heung-min Son say?

Son Heung-min started Tottenham’s latest premierships on the bench after opening the 2022-23 campaign with a fruitless eight-game run in the final third. The South Korean striker broke a canard on style when netting a 13-minute trill against the Foxes, but the Golden Boot-winning player sets such high standards for himself that he considers it just small steps that have been taken in the right direction.

Explaining why there was no carefully crafted expression of emotion after silencing all the doubters against Leicester City, the South Korea striker said he was simply not happy with his chances and performance and he was disappointed with himself. According to Heung-min Son, he was born to love football and is still in love with football. Son thinks about football. Heung-min is an attacking player and when he does not forget, he is not happy. “How can I be happy if I have an incredible opportunity to score or take chances?” Son said.

According to Heung-min, if he was happy and didn’t score, he probably wouldn’t be here. Sometimes when he goes home, even though they won the game. He is still sad because his performance was not good, there are things he can do better and the mistakes he made because he missed chances. Heung-min Son says that he always thinks about football because he made it here and so he is here. Heung-min Son still loves football even in difficult times and that’s why he’s here.
