According to rumors, Tottenham is considering a free move for Southampton’s Fraser Forster next season.

Hugo Lloris has been Tottenham’s unquestioned No. 1 goalkeeper this season, with Pierluigi Gollini unable to dethrone him during his loan term from Atalanta.

Spurs are planning to improve their squad for next season, with the Champions League looking increasingly likely after passing Arsenal in the fight for a top-four position. To win it, they only need one point against Norwich City on the last day.

And one area where the club is looking to improve is goalkeeping, where a backup to Lloris is required as Gollini prepares to leave.

Spurs are interested in signing Forster at the conclusion of the season and enjoy the concept of having a homegrown goalkeeper, especially if they qualify for the Champions League.

It is said that Forster has already spoken his goodbyes to his Southampton teammates and that he will not participate in the club’s last game of the season against Leicester City.

Forster has six England appearances and has been Southampton’s primary goalkeeper for the second half of the season after Alex McCarthy began the season as Ralph Hasenhuttl’s first option until suffering an injury.

Forster began his career with Newcastle, then went on to play over 200 times for Celtic before spending the last eight seasons with Southampton. In 2019-20, he returned to Celtic on loan.
Despite failing to win the England No 1 shirt during his career, he has frequently played for the Three Lions and was called up by Gareth Southgate for his squad’s match against the Ivory Coast and Switzerland in March of this year.

Forster is unlikely to succeed Lloris, who is in his eighth season with Tottenham and recently signed a new two-year contract that would keep him in the capital until 2024.

The World Cup-winning captain of France said it was a ‘pleasure’ to play for Tottenham and that he was pleased with the team’s improvement under Conte.
