India’s 2024 T20 World Cup Champions Face Hurricane Dilemma

India’s triumphant T20 World Cup team is currently stranded in Barbados due to the looming threat of Hurricane Beryl, which has intensified into a ‘very dangerous’ Category 3 storm. The Barbados government has issued warnings, causing uncertainty in the team’s return itinerary. The BCCI is working tirelessly to make alternative arrangements for their safe journey back home.

Initially scheduled to fly out on Monday via New York and Emirates flights to Mumbai, the team may now have to charter a direct flight to India from the US. With the Barbados airport possibly closing on Sunday night, the BCCI is exploring all options to ensure the team’s swift return.

The unexpected hurricane has forced a change in plans, with efforts underway to secure a large enough aircraft to accommodate the entire entourage, including players, support staff, families, and officials. The current proposal is to fly everyone to New Delhi, where a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi is being considered to celebrate their historic victory.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah praised the team’s resilience and exceptional performance, announcing a staggering prize money of INR 125 crore as an incentive for their unbeaten World Cup triumph. The team, led by captain Rohit Sharma and supported by stars like Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah, has captured the hearts of 1.4 billion Indians with their inspiring journey to victory.
