The schedule & the venues for the ICC men’s T20 World Cup 2022 to be held in Australia have been released.

The mega tournament will be played between 18 October & 13 November with 16 teams competing for the prestigious title. All the matches will be played in seven cities across Australia. Twelve nations have already made their way to the T20 World Cup 2022 & the remaining four nations will be finalized by two global qualifying tournaments to be held in early 2022.

 

The Super 12

Group 1: England, New Zealand, Australia, and Afghanistan. A1 & B2

 

Group 2: India, Pakistan, South Africa, and Bangladesh, B1, A2

 

The Super 12 stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 will kick-start in Sydney with a blockbuster clash between the two finalists of T20 World Cup 2021, New Zealand facing Australia on Saturday, October 22. To add to the excitement of the fans, the arch-rivals India & Pakistan will come into a face-off with each other on Sunday 23rd October. The opening weekend of the T20 World Cup 2022 is all set to treat cricket fans with some thrilling action on the field as the two fiercest teams of World Cricket India & Pakistan will lock horns with each other.

 

The Super 12 stage will end with the semi-final fixtures on November 9 & 10 at the Adelaide Oval & the SCG ground while the final will be played at the MCG ground on November 13.

 

The First Round

The ICC men’s T20 World Cup 2022 will commence on October 16 with a six-day group stage to determine the four teams qualifying for the Super 12s stage of the tournament. 

 

Sri Lanka & Namibia will be accompanied by two qualifiers in Group A, while West Indies & Scotland will be accompanied by two other qualifiers in Group B. The four additional teams will be qualified from the two Global Qualifier tournaments to be played in early 2022.

 

The first Round will see daily doubleheaders held on alternate days at Hot’s Bellerive Oval and Geelong’s Kardinia Park, all the Group A matches to be held at the latter venue and all Group B matches to be held in the Tasmanian city. All fixtures will be held between Sunday 16 October and Friday 21 October.

 

The winner of Group A & the runner-up of Group B will join Group 1 in the Super 12s stage while the winner of Group B & the runner’s up of Group A will be joining Group 2. The final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 will be played on November 13 at the MCG ground.

 

The Tournament Venues

There will be seven venues in total at the tournament. Kardinia Park in Geelong will host six matches in the opening week of the First Round, while Bellerive Oval in Hobart will host nine games in total, six in the first round and three further matches during the opening three days of the Super 12 stage.

 

The remainder of the Super 12 matches will be held at the following stadiums:

  • The Gabba
  • Perth Stadium
  • Adelaide Oval
  • Sydney Cricket Ground
  • Melbourne Cricket Ground

Key Fixtures

The Super12 stage of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 comprises some exhilarating fixtures which you can’t miss out on. In addition to Australia vs New Zealand and Pakistan vs India matches on the opening weekend, Australia vs England at MCG on October 28 is another big-ticket fixture that you can’t miss.

 

Another enthralling clash of the Super 12s stage will see England coming into a face-off with New Zealand at the Gabba on November 1 which also marks the second last game of the Group stage. Then comes Pakistan who will lock horns with Bangladesh in Adelaide on the final afternoon of the Super 12 stage.

 

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 was originally scheduled to be played in 2020 but the tournament was postponed due to COVID-19. Cricket Australia swapped hosting rights with the BCCI, the latter hosting the postponed edition in Dubai last year with Australia agreeing to host the eighth edition of the marquee tournament.
