Also, the Sri Lanka tour of India will make significant changes in the points table. The two-match series will start tomorrow and the first match will be played at Mohali Cricket Stadium.
Coming to the points table, India is in 5th place with 4 wins in 9 played matches and 53 points. India and England are the only two teams to draw 2-2 matches.
India has lost three matches so far, the first loss coming on home soil and the other two defeats in South Africa. India, having played most matches has the most points on the table (53).
Australia is the only team to not have lost any match which gives them a significant 2nd position in the points table. On the other hand, Pakistan has lost only one match and won 3 out of 4 matches played.
As it appears, the series between Pakistan and Australia will produce some changes at the same time the series between India and Sri Lanka will. A loss for Sri Lanka will incline them towards the third position and a clean sweep loss will send them below India.
For India, a clean sweep is indeed a demand for their progress. Not a big move but it will certainly keep them in the final game of the team rankings.
Pakistan is in a good position. Two victories and a draw will give them a chance to take second place. However, if Australia wins the series with 2-1, they will remain in second place. Even better, if India defeats Sri Lanka at the same time, Australia will become table toppers.
A clean sweep in either of the one series will give a team boosted chance to cement its place for ahead. A clean sweep looks unseemly in the Pakistan vs Australia series. That appears to be a competitive series.
However, India has greater chances to surprise visitors as they always do in the vicinity of their home conditions. Even the best of teams struggle in India, thus, it will take Sri Lanka a Herculean effort to register a win and defend its top place on the points table.
