If Mauricio Pochettino is appointed as Manchester United’s new manager this summer, he is expected to advocate for Harry Kane to join the club.

Pochettino, 49, has been linked with a return to England since his departure from Spurs, and United are keen in bringing him in on a permanent basis when Ralf Rangnick’s interim tenure ends this season.

Pochettino is set to press United to sign England captain Kane if he takes over at Old Trafford.

Following their time together at Spurs, Pochettino and Kane have forged a solid bond, and the 28-year-old could look to leave the club this summer when his contract expires.

Kane was keen to leave last summer, despite Manchester City’s significant interest, and claimed that he had a ‘gentleman’s arrangement’ with Daniel Levy that he would be allowed to leave if the club failed to finish in the top four.

The Premier League champion’s attempts, which included a £150 million bid, were refused by the Spurs chairman.

United’s strikeforce is aging, with Cristiano Ronaldo, 37, heading the line, and Edinson Cavani, 34, set to leave on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the season.

According to sources, senior figures at Old Trafford regret not making a more aggressive effort to get Kane last summer, with the Red Devils acting as bystanders as City and Spurs fought for the England captain.

Kane would be enticed by a reunion with Pochettino. In July, the striker will turn 29, and a Tottenham exit may be a case of ‘now or never.’ Pochettino is now the manager of PSG. But he is on United’s shortlist of long-term successors to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Ajax coach Erik ten Hag, as well as Spain coach Luis Enrique, are thought to be contenders.

Pochettino’ really fits’ with the job of rebuilding United, and the search is being led by football director John Murtough and overseen by incoming chief executive Richard Arnold.
