IND vs SL 1st Test: PCA offers 50% seat capacity for Virat Kohli’s 100th Test match against Sri Lanka

The Indian Cricket Board of Control (BCCI) on Tuesday allowed 50 per cent rates for the first Test between India and Sri Lanka at the PCA Stadium in Mohali, starting March 4.

It will also be the 100th match of the first Test against Sri Lanka. Sachin Tendulkar (200), Rahul Dravid (163), VVS Laxman (134), Anil Kumble (132), Kapil Dev (131), Sunil Gavaskar (125), Dilip Vengsarkar (116), Sourav Ganguly (113), Ishant Sharma (105), Harbhajan Singh (103) and Virender Sehwag (103), Kohli will become the 12th Indian to play 100 Tests.

In such a situation, the BCCI’s decision is welcome news for rates sceptics, who will get a chance to watch Kohli’s 100th Test from the stands.

A section of fans took to social media to express their dismay over rate doubts not being allowed for the first match.

Virat Kohli’s 100th Test Match

Notably, the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) confirmed last week that the first Test in Mohali will be played without any doubts due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

PCA treasurer RP Singla told The Indian Express, “We have heard from the BCCI about allowing rates to come in with 50 per cent capacity for the 1st Test match between India and Sri Lanka in Mohali starting March 4.

PCA will allow online sale of tickets from Wednesday as it gets crowded for Kohli’s 100th Test match. Fans will be present at the ticket counters in the stadium to watch Virat Kohli play his 100th Test match and the PCA will ensure that all Covid-19 protocols are followed.

Kohli has scored 7962 runs in 99 red-ball matches. Earlier, former Indian captain, Sunil Gavaskar had said that Kohli’s lack of ratings in the 100th Test is disappointing. He, however, called it a decision taken in the larger good.
