IND vs SL 1st Test: Rohit Sharma explains how Test Captaincy is going to be different from ODIs & T20Is Captaincy

India vs Sri Lanka 1st Test Match at PCA Stadium, Mohali: The first Test match of the two-match series between India and Sri Lanka is to be played from March 4.

A day before the match, Team India’s new Test captain Rohit Sharma told what are the challenges before him regarding captaincy in this format as well as what will be his approach as captain. Rohit admitted that the World Test Championship will be challenging for Team India.

Rohit said, ‘The World Test Championship will be challenging for us. We have nine Tests left now and we are in the middle of the points table. Looks like we will have to win all the Test matches from here.

I am the captain and I would like to open the innings with everyone. We have to see and understand which player is the best. Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Mayank Agarwal are all talented players and we have to back them.

Laxman told what makes Virat Kohli different

Rohit said, ‘To be honest, I just want to win matches, I want to do the right things with the squad that we have. We are in a good position and have done well in the last five years. A lot of credit for this goes to Virat Kohli.

My philosophy regarding captaincy will remain the same in Tests as well. One has to be present, understand the situation and react to it. I don’t want to think too much ahead. We all know it is a completely different format, very different from One Day Internationals.
