IND vs WI 2022

The BCCI on Wednesday announced T20I & ODI squads for the upcoming white-ball series against West Indies commencing from 6th Feb. What comes as a major surprise is the inclusion of leg spinner Ravi Bishnoi into both T20I & ODI squads, confirmed the BCCI while announcing the team. BCCI’s baggage of surprises doesn’t end here as all-rounder Deepak Hooda received a call-up in the ODI squad.

On the other hand, Kuldeep Yadav, who has been on the sidelines for a long time, has been recalled to the ODI squad. Kuldeep Yadav was last seen into action in India’s limited-overs series against Sri Lanka earlier in 2021. Meanwhile, Pacer Avesh Khan has been included in both squads. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who had a poor run in the recently concluded ODI series against South Africa, has been given one more chance to show his prowess as the selectors retained him in the T20I squad.

Rohit Sharma is fit to lead the team against West Indies

Ravichandran Ashwin will miss the series as he is undergoing treatment & is unavailable for selection. However, Washington Sundar, who missed the South Africa tour due to COVID-19, will return to the squad. And the icing on the cake is the return of India’s newly appointed white-ball captain Rohit Sharma who has recovered from his injury & is fit to lead the team in the white ball series against West Indies.

Pacer Jasprit Bumrah, as expected, has been rested from the entire series to manage his workload. All-rounder Venkatesh Iyer has been chosen only in the T20I squad, having already fetched the ax in the third and final ODI in South Africa recently. All-rounders Hardik Pandya & Ravindra Jadeja remains benched as they are still recovering from their injuries & are not fit to play in the white ball series.

Talking about Ravi Bishnoi’s performances, the youngster left an impression in the U-19 World Cup 2020 itself. His stellar performance in U-19 WC 2020, accompanied by blistering performances in the two seasons of IPL he has played, has helped him to rise to glory. Ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction, the legspinner has already been picked up by new franchise Lucknow Super Giants as their third player.
