CricketIndia Back as The Top in the T20 Rankings

India is back at the top after crushing West Indies 3-0 in the T20I series. They took over England who had been placed at the top since the World Cup.

India has been favorites in the T20s for a long time. Their success will play a crucial role in defining their performance in the T20 World Cup. A lot of credit for this apex goes to the newcomers who have played leading roles in recent matches.

Their recent victories against the West Indies were rather very comprehensive. All around, they performed dominantly in all three matches. Last year, they performed very well against the likes of England, New Zealand and Australia.

Before the series against the West Indies, I clinched a thumping victory against the New Zealand side. They failed to perform according to their stature in the T20 World cup last year in Dubai. However, since then, India has been quite comfortable in 2 home series.

Everything aside, there is a neck to neck competition between England and India for the top position. The latter has equal ratings to India but only lacks 10 decisive points which puts them in second place.

When India will visit Australia and England, they will find a challenge in both batting and bowling departments. For now, India is on rampage and any team will struggle to find rhythm against the Indian bowling attack. Their batting, led by Kohli and Rohit, appears to be a formidable side.

As of February 2022, teams in point rankings stand as such:

  1.  India                     10,484         269
  2. England                10,474          269
  3. Pakistan               12,225           266
  4. New Zealand       9,707             255
  5. South Africa        8,858            253

India will be playing Sri Lanka in a 3 match T20 series starting from 24th February. Defeating India in India is always a laborious and unachievable task for visitors. However, in the last couple of years, Sri Lanka has come out as a strengthened and stable side.

Their performance in the T20 World Cup in the UAE made them win applause and appreciation of many cricket commentators. Sri Lanka is a young side and will face a top ranked team in their castle which has been impregnable in recent decades.
