The Indian women’s cricket team started the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 with a comprehensive win over Pakistan. The team’s first match was against Pakistan who were equally prepared and hopeful for a win. India struggled in earlier stages and hung up at 114 for 6. But Pooja Vastrakar and Sneh Rana had other plans as they batted together until 49.1 overs and put up a match winning partnership of 122 runs.

In the end, India won this match by 107 runs. Playing first, the Indian team led by Mithali Raj scored 244 runs for 7 wickets. Pakistan’s innings was restricted to 137 runs. The Indian women’s team has not yet faced a defeat against Pakistan in ODIs. In 11 faceoffs, All matches have been won by India. This is India’s fourth win over Pakistan in the ODI World Cup. Earlier, the team had defeated Pakistan in 2009, 2013 and 2017.

Electing to bat after winning the toss, the Indian team had a shaky start of innings. Shefali Verma got clean bowled on the last ball of the third over. Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma shared a 92-run partnership for the second wicket. Smriti (51) returned to the pavilion after scoring a sensible half-century. However, wickets continued to fall and it looked like a collapse. Within 18 runs, 6 batsmen of the team returned to the pavilion.

After the sixth wicket fell for 114 runs, Sneh Rana and Pooja Vastrakar took the team out of the worrying situation. Both made a partnership of 122 runs for the 7th wicket. This is the highest partnership of the 7th wicket in women’s ODI cricket. Pooja, playing her debut match, was dismissed for 67 runs in 59 balls in the last over. Sneh Rana scored 53 runs in 48 balls. India scored 244 runs for 7 wickets.

Indian captain Mithali Raj became the third cricketer and the first woman cricketer after Sachin Tendulkar and Javed Miandad to play six World Cups. The 39-year-old veteran, who has played many memorable matches for India, played the World Cup for the first time in 2000. After this, she became a part of it in 2005, 2009, 2013, 2017 and now in 2022.

In women’s cricket, she surpassed the record of New Zealand’s Debbie Hawkley and England’s Charlotte Edwards. Also, the fast bowler Jhulan Goswami has played in five World Cups. Tendulkar played six World Cups between 1992 and 2011.
