India vs West Indies

Team India have taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series against West Indies. The second ODI is scheduled to be played on Friday at Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata. There was some swing early on in the first innings and Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Deepak Chahar made good use of that.

The duo, however, went for runs as well. The spinners though bowled well in the middle-overs and picked vital wickets as well. Harshal Patel made good use of the slower balls and finished with returns of 2 for 37 runs in 4 overs. In the end, West Indies managed to score 157 runs in the first innings. Debutant, Ravi Bishnoi was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed 2 for 14 in 4 overs.

West Indies batsmen, once again got out while trying to play shots one too many. Nicholas Pooran, however, held firm at one end and managed to score a brilliant knock of 61 runs in 43 balls. Pollard too remained unbeaten on 24 off 19.

In response to the score, India chased down the total in 18.5 overs. Rohit Sharma gave the team a flying start with a 19-ball 40. His knock was laced with 4 fours and 3 sixes. Ishan Kishan (35 off 42), however, failed to get going. Virat Kohli (17 off 13) and Rishabh Pant (8 off 8) also went for cheap scores and India, at one stage, were 114 for 4 inside 15 overs. However, Suryakumar Yadav (34 off 18) then stitched an unbeaten 48-run partnership with Venkatesh Iyer (24 off 13) to guide the team home in 18.5 overs.

West Indies spinners, Roston Chase and Akeal Hosein, were brilliant in the middle overs. They bowled at disciplined lengths and tried to make a match out of a low-scoring total. Chase was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 2 for 14 in 4 overs. Heading into the next game, West Indies would look to perform better with the bat.
