There is a cheering news for Indian team fans. The Indian team may tour Australia twice in the next Future Tours Program (FTP) cycle from 2024-2032, increasing the number of Tests per series from the current four to five.

According to a report in The Age, Cricket Australia (CA) has “recently informed both domestic and international broadcasters of the fact that it has faced two full Test tours each by India and England at the next FTP. At the same time, Indian team will now play a series of five matches from four to five on Australia tour.

“The last two Test tours of Australia, consisting of four matches in each series, were won by India which was a historic victory. The current ICC FTP run from 2018 to 2023 ends with the men’s 50-over ICC World Cup, which will be played in India in October-November next year, the report said.

‘Why Can’t Virat Kohli Be Dropped From The Team?’, Asks Kapil Dev

The full FTP is expected to be formally announced later this month, at the ICC annual meeting in Birmingham on 25 and 26 July. India has always been a big attraction for the Australian crowd. Both the teams are world class and cricket is a popular sport in both the countries.

A report released said, “Without Test-match tours to England or India, crowds and broadcast spectators usually drop – for this reason CA itself has been able to balance the ups and downs in the international schedule.” Working on a multi-year financial model, Cricket Australia finally thanked the BCCI as the series two years ago proved to be an epic competition and for ensuring its smooth functioning.

The Indian team under the leadership of Ajinkya Rahane was without star player Virat Kohli. But that young team overcame all odds to beat Australia by three wickets at the Gabba to win the series 2-1 and retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The role played by the Sourav Ganguly-led BCCI in successfully completing the tour amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
