Inter are under investigation for financial irregularities as the club’s office was ransacked by prosecutors on Tuesday.

 

A little about the topic

The documents were acquired amid allegations of false accounting against unidentified individuals that spanned the two-year period between 2017-19. The news comes shortly after Juve came under investigation for similar charges in relation to transfer activities.

Deputy Prosecutor Romanelli stated that, as part of the investigative measures coordinated by the Prosecutor, the financiers of the Financial and Economic Police of the Financial Police of Milan carried out documentary investigations in the offices of FC Internazionale Milano and the professionals of Lega Nazionale, Serie A.

Acting Attorney Targetti added that ongoing activities are aimed at acquiring documentation regarding the transfer of registration rights of certain players for the 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 fiscal years to Inter, in order to check the regularity of accounting for the accompanying capital gains.

Shortly after news of the investigation broke, Inter released their own statement that the club had provided the authorities with all relevant information. The club’s announcement states that FC Internazionale Milano confirms that it has provided the required documentation regarding the retirements of certain players in the 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 seasons.

A request was received by the Milan prosecutor’s office to check the regular accounting of the corresponding capital gains. The company’s financial statements are prepared in accordance with the strictest accounting principles. No Inter cardholders are under investigation. No objections were formalized. As indicated in the statement of the Prosecutor, these are preliminary investigations.

 

A little about transfers

The club has signed a number of key players over the years highlighted by the investigation, several of whom helped lead Inter to the Serie A title last season. Eriksen, Lukaku, Barella, Martinez and Nainggolan signed with the club between 2017-19, with all but Nainggolan receiving the Serie A winners’ medal last season.
