The big guns of World Cricket Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, Joe Root & Mitchell Starc have decided not to feature in the upcoming 2022 edition of the IPL. These star players haven’t enrolled their name in the IPL 2022 mega auction which is slated to be held on February 12 and 13.
The absence of Stokes, Archer and Sarc was a surprise for all
Joe Root had previously declared that he would sacrifice IPL for the growth of England’s test cricket, but the absence of Ben Stokes, Archer & Starc was a surprise for all. Over 1200 players (1214) have made it to the initial list of the auction register which was shared with the IPL franchises on Friday night.
Some of the big names of World Cricket who have made themselves available for the IPL 2022 are Pat Cummins (Australia, base price Rs 2 crore), David Warner (Australia, Rs 2 crore), Steve Smith (Australia, Rs 2 crore), Quinton de Kock (South Africa, Rs 2 crore), Faf du Plessis (South Africa, Rs 2 crore) and Mark Wood (England, Rs 2 crore). Mark Wood who hasn’t registered his name in IPL 2021 auction has enrolled his name in the IPL 2022 Auction Register.
The pace trip of Kagiso Rabada (Rs 2 crore) Lungi Ngidi (Rs 50 lakh) and Marco Jansen (Rs 50 lakh), who outclassed India in the recently concluded test & ODI series have enrolled themselves for the IPL 2022 Auction to be held in Bangalore.
Chris Gayle has featured regularly in the IPL
Dwayne Bravo has enrolled his name in the auction register for the base price of Rs 2 crore. Another major absentee from the auction register is West Indies star, Chris Gayle. The ‘Universe Boss’ has featured regularly in the IPL since its inception might have opted to stay away from the mega auction as soon he is going to retire from International Cricket & has been facing a downfall in his batting career.
Around 1,214 players have enrolled their names in the IPL 2022 Auction Register. Out of 1,214 registered players, 896 players are Indian & 318 are overseas players. The list incorporates 270 capped, 903 uncapped, and 41 players from Associate nations like Nepal, UAE, Oman, Scotland, and the Netherlands. There are 14 players from the USA too.
If every franchisee were to have a maximum of 25 players in their squad, 217 players will be bought in the auction of which up to 70 may be overseas players. Even considering the fact that all the teams will not go for the full quota of players, there is still a high possibility that at least 200 players will go under the hammer.
Mitchell had hinted that he was contemplating an IPL comeback
After the end of the Ashes 2021-2022, Joe Root had explained his reasons for skipping the IPL 2022 but Mitchell Starc earlier had hinted that he was contemplating an IPL comeback. “I’ve not put my name down just yet, but I’ve got a couple more days to decide on that. It’s certainly on the table regardless of what the schedule has got coming up,” the Australian pacer had said. However earlier today it was reported that Starc could give the IPL a miss.
Joe Root had said, “I think that there’s a lot that we need to do for this team, which deserves all of my energy. I really hope I get the opportunity to do it. I’ll keep sacrificing as much as I can because I care so much about Test cricket in our country and trying to get us to where we can.”
A total of 33 players have been retained by the franchises ahead of the auction. While the existing eight franchises have retained 27 players, the two new teams have picked three players each.
