Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah has said that the limitation of media rights in the Indian Premier League (IPL) will affect the growth of the league.
Notably, the arrival of two new teams will also help in the digital growth of IPL. Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans will play two new teams in IPL 2022.
Shah said that the ambitious price tag of the IPL has exceeded all expectations. He declined to discuss any amount but said any amount would affect the development of the league.
Shah said the BCCI will float the tender for the league’s media rights for the 2023-27 cycle early next week and complete the e-auction in two months. It is expected to fetch Rs 500 billion.

He said that the Board has taken up various proposals. He said the board has studied various proposals and will also consider various TV and digital languages. This means that Amazon.com Inc. and Reliance Industries Ltd.

Sony Group Corporation and The Walt Disney Company will compete for the rights to TV and digital broadcasts. The record amount for the rights could go up to Rs 500 billion. Disney-owned Star India is one of the top broadcasters in India. It and Sony have paid Rs 163.48 billion for digital and television rights by 2022.
“Lucknow and Ahmedabad teams have also participated in the IPL and the league has benefited from their presence,” Shah said. In just 14 seasons, we have recorded a huge number and reached the most popular league.
We are being watched not only on television but also digitally. The league of 10 teams can start in the last week of March.
