Punjab is yet to become a winner in the history of IPL and under the leadership of new captain Mayank Agarwal, the team would like to change history. Mayank was the vice-captain of the team last season and he was retained before the auction.
Punjab have big batsmen like Mayank, Shikhar Dhawan, Jonny Bairstow and Liam Livingstone. Dhawan and Mayank have been doing wonders in the IPL for the last couple of seasons.
On the other hand, Livingstone is known all over the world for his aggressive batting style. Also, he is a handy spinner who can pass off a couple of overs if needed.
Shahrukh Khan is also part of Punjab as a match finisher in lower order. He has played the role of a finisher in domestic cricket. Despite KL Rahul leaving Punjab, the batting order looks strong.
Punjab has included Kagiso Rabada in the auction this time. Rabada is known for taking wickets and Punjab will expect a similar performance from him.
Apart from Rabada, there are other options like Arshdeep Singh, Sandeep Sharma and Nathan Ellis. There is no big name in bowling except Rabada but Sandeep Sharma brings valuable experience. In the spin department, Rahul Chahar has been included in the team.
Punjab has included Liam Livingstone as an all-rounder after paying Rs 11.5 crore. Livingstone is a player playing in all the T20 leagues in the world. He can spin the bowl both ways.
However, apart from Livingstone, there is no experienced all-rounder in the team. There are other all-rounders likeof Vidarbha’s Atharv and Himachal Pradesh’s Rishi Dhawan, who have performed well in domestic cricket.
Punjab can open with Mayank and Dhawan. Bairstow can play as a wicket-keeper batsman at number three. Shahrukh, Livingstone and Smith can be dropped in the middle order. Rishi Dhawan can be an all-rounder.
Rabada will lead the fast bowling with Arshdeep to support him. Left-arm Brar and leg-spinner Chahar may be visible in the spin department.
