IPL Media Rights: BCCI to make Rs. 49 Lakh from each ball bowled, Rs 2.95 crore per over

IPL Media Rights:  The media rights for IPL 2023-2027 were sold for Rs 48,390 crore, where BCCI will earn around Rs 49 lakh from each ball bowled. At the same time, there will be an earning of Rs 2.95 crore in each over. BCCI will earn Rs 118 crore from each IPL match from 2023.

BCCI breaks all records of earning 

According to the five-year deal acquired by Star India in 2018, the average value of each home game in India is Rs 60 crore. Notably, BCCI was earning around Rs 55 crore from each IPL match in the previous cycle from 2018-22. In an e-auction conducted by BCCI for three days, Disney-Star retained the TV media rights, while Viacom18 won the digital rights for the 2023–27 cycle of the Indian Premier League for the Indian subcontinent.

BCCI will earn around Rs 49 lakh per ball

The maximum bid for TV rights (Package A) was Rs 23,575 crore (Rs 57.5 crore per match), while Viacom18 spent Rs 23,758 crore for claiming Package B and C exclusively for digital rights. Viacom18 also got the rights for Australia, South Africa, UK regions in Package D while Times Internet got the rights for ‘MENA’ and ‘US’.

Notably, for the first time, the BCCI split the TV and digital rights of the IPL, offering four packages to the bidders: (a) India Sub-continent Television, (b) India Sub-continent Digital, (c) India Digital Non-exclusive special package and package D includes countries other than India. The auction started on 12th June at 11:00 am with packages A and B. The bidding started at a base price of Rs 49 crore for TV rights and Rs 33 crore for digital rights and the parties had up to 30 minutes to bid.
