Left-handed batsman Ishan Kishan was bought by Mumbai Indians in the IPL mega auction for Rs 15.25 crore and was expected to perform well.
It was believed that he would help the Rohit Sharma-led team get off to a good start. However, after scoring 81 runs in the first match of this season, Ishan Kishan is proving to be a failure, and he is currently in poor form.
He has so far scored 199 runs in eight matches at an average of 28.43. After Mumbai Indians’ eighth consecutive defeat this season, the team’s head coach Mahela Jayawardene said that Ishaan has really struggled in the last few matches and his performance is not what the team is “expecting from him”.
Jayawardene said during the virtual post-match press conference, “Obviously on the field you must have seen that after starting well in the first few matches, he was seen struggling a bit in the last four matches.”
“I haven’t spoken to him after this game to find out what was going on in his mind about how he should approach the match. We have given him the freedom to play his game in his own way.”
“Even today when Rohit was batting well he seemed to struggle. That’s what I have to talk to him after this game. But yeah, definitely his performance is not what we were seeing on the surface “
In the match against Lucknow Super Giants, Ishaan scored only 8 runs in 20 balls. He failed to rotate the strike and was eventually dismissed by Ravi Bishnoi in the eighth over of the innings.
Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday defeated Mumbai Indians by 36 runs to reach the fourth position in the IPL points table.
Batting first, Lucknow Super Giants scored 6 wickets for 168 runs in 20 overs thanks to captain KL Rahul’s unbeaten knock of 103 runs.
This was Rahul’s third century against Mumbai, this is a new record for most centuries by a single cricketer against a single team.
Ishaan Kishan has not only been a flop from Mumbai’s side but has also failed to give a good start to the team.
Ishaan’s strength is his hitting. Because of this, not only did he get a place in Team India, but he also got accolades for scoring runs in the initial matches.
But it seems that Ishan Kishan’s natural game has been lost somewhere. Mumbai Indians have taken him for 15.25 crores and he has not helped the team to win a single match.
