Jamie Vardy who retired from England national team in August 2018, speaks about returning for EURO 2020.

The door still would be open for me

English striker Jamie Vardy does not rule out the prospect of returning to England for Euro 2020 following the injuries suffered by Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford. Leicester forward Jamie initially left international football in August 2018 but retained the door ajar in case injuries got into Gareth Southgate’s squad. As both Kane and Rashford are struggling to be eligible for the European Championships in the summer, calls have been made for Vardy to return, and this is a scenario that he does not entirely cancel. “Who knows? Gareth and I agreed that the door would still be open for any reason, and then we would sit down and talk about it if needed,” Jamie told reporters.

Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford are injured

“We haven’t talked yet and said nothing. Harry and Marcus are injured, but they want to return on time. So only time will tell.” I’m not going to lie, I had a few extra days off in international breaks, so I could completely disconnect from football, and it’s always beneficial sometimes. “Knowing that when you come back, it’s constantly again, it’s 100 per cent football every day, so this is one of the things that have benefited me.” Vardy is still recovering from his calf injury, because of which the last two matches and the Leicester against the backdrop of a nine-match drought goal left for the side.

Jamie is a top scorer in the PL

However, the 33-year-old striker is still the joint top scorer in the Premier League this season, along with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, with his 17 goals. His recent recession in uniform coincided with a fall in results for Leicester, who won just one of their last seven Premier League games ahead of their Monday night performance against Aston Villa. “It was a great start, but you don’t want to be the team that has a great start, and suddenly you are not there,” said Vardy. “We must continue to work hard to try to score as many points as possible in these last ten games.

“Anyway, the inconsistency shows you that the situation is changing. Look at our team, we are more than capable of defeating someone on this day, and the other teams there like Sheffield United played very well. They deserve to be there.” That’s what we must return to the sequence that we had in the first half of the season, and I hope that it will keep us there.”
