Explosive opener Jason Roy has been banned by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for two international matches. Roy, who was bought by Gujarat Titans for IPL 2022, withdrew from the 15th season of the league citing  bio bubble. Apart from imposing the ban, the ECB also imposed a fine of 2,500 euros on Roy.

The board further said, “Jason has been suspended from the next two matches in England in which he will be available for selection but this suspension can also go as far as 12 months. However, it depends on his behaviour. In addition, a 2,500 Euro fine has been imposed and he has to pay it by 31 March 2022.

Jason, a 31-year-old right-handed batsman, withdrew from IPL 2022. While the league’s new franchise Gujarat Titans bought him at auction for a whopping sum of Rs 2 crore, Roy himself cited the bio bubble.

He further added that he wanted to spend more time with his family. This was not the first time he abstained from playing in the IPL, before this, he also withdrew his name from IPL 2020 when Delhi Capitals bought him. But at that time also he had decided not to play.

Jason Roy is a talented top order batsman. He has been away from cricket for a few months. Regarding IPL 2022, his decision wasn’t appreciated by Indian fans. As a world class cricketer, he has to be sensible while making such decisions.

As it appears, he doesn’t enjoy playing in the IPL. For IPL fans, the news of his withdrawal wasn’t received on a positive note.

Roy last appeared for England in January, when they were defeated by the West Indies in a T20I series. He later played in the PSL for the Quetta Gladiators but dropped out of the IPL with the Gujarat Titans.

He claimed that playing cricket in the pandemic-enforced bio-bubbles had taken its toll on him during the previous three years and that he wanted to spend more time with his family.
