Florentino Perez never loses

LaLiga president Javier Tebas talked about his Real Madrid counterpart Florentino Perez, and he said that they have very different ideas about football. Tebas spoke at a Europa Press event and touched on various topical themes, including VAR and the failed European Super League. “Florentino Perez never loses. It’s like you don’t know him,” Tebas said. “This is not a personal question, and we have different ideas about football. Behind everything was Gianni Infantino, the FIFA president, pushing, saying things…” Tebas insisted that although the couple are on opposite sides of the European Super League debacle. It is not about Tebas against Perez, but about the integrity of football, he argues. “For me, it is not a fight against Perez, to be honest. It is a battle for the ecosystem of European football,” Tebas said at the event in Madrid.

La Liga is a Super League

“Florentino has led this project, but it is not a fight with him. I mean that he is a person you rarely hear; admit that he is wrong. The LaLiga president thinks that Perez was wrong on the European Super League, especially with his claims that he is the saviour of football. “He contradicts himself several times: he talks about COVID, but then says that he has been working on it for three years,” Tebas pointed out. “What most annoyed me was that they are doing it to save football. If that’s the case, why was it so secretive? They’ve been planning the Super League for 20 years, and we all know it would be a disaster.” Tebas further stated that the Spanish league is strong and does not need to be saved. “Spain has a great championship that we should all be very proud of,” Tebas said.

“We did not ask for any bailouts; in fact, we gave money to help other sports; we have expanded our audiovisual rights and audiences. La Liga is a Super League.”
