The International Cricket Council (ICC) is gearing up for its Annual Conference in Colombo this month, with the election for the chairman position set to take place in November. Jay Shah, a potential candidate for the role, will have three months to decide if he wants to move to Dubai if elected. The conference will run from July 19 to 22.

Shah, who is being considered as the youngest head of the ICC, has not confirmed his interest in the chairman position yet. The current chairman, Greg Barclay, may also seek reelection, but if Shah decides to run, he is likely to be elected unopposed. The ICC has recently changed the tenure of the chairman to two terms of three years each.

Speculation has been rife about Shah’s potential plans for the ICC, including the possibility of relocating the headquarters to Mumbai. However, Shah has not indicated any such intentions but is focused on bringing positive changes to the organization, especially after the recent chaotic Twenty20 World Cup.

In addition to the chairman election, the Annual Conference will also see the election of Associate Member Directors. Eleven candidates are competing for three positions, with strong contenders like Mubashshir Usmani and Sankar Renganathan vying for a spot on the ICC Board of Directors.

A total of 45 Associate members from different zones will be participating in the election process, with voting conducted electronically or through a manual secret ballot in case of technical issues. The ICC ensures a fair voting process, with procedures in place to resolve ties among candidates.

The Annual Conference promises to be a significant event for the cricketing world, with key decisions and elections shaping the future of the sport at an international level. Stay tuned for updates on the outcomes of the conference and the appointments of new ICC officials.
