The Barcelona presidential elections may be postponed

There have been speculations that the Barcelona presidential election may well be postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic affecting Europe. Still, candidate Joan Laporta believes the election should take place on January 24. Laporta is one of the leading candidates for Barcelona’s presidency. “The club can no longer operate without a president or a board of directors,” Laporta explained. “The elections are to be held on January 24. There is no objective reason to delay the collection of signatures or to delay the voting. We have the same obstacles as everyone else, to change the date would change the electoral process and may cause challenges for the election result.” Unlike his 2003 campaign, Laporta did not use flash names and promises to attract people.

Instead, he keeps his cards close to his chest at potential appointments. “I have already said that I will not name names,” he added. “Thanks to the knowledge of football and the reality of our club, we will make whatever changes we consider appropriate. I will not name names, and this is a rule that we have imposed on ourselves in order not to destabilize the first team.” When asked for his answer on the polling done so far, the former president said he was focused on business. “We are focused on this stage of the electoral process,” he confirmed. “We’ve worked hard here to get as many guarantees as possible. We don’t think about whether we are loved, but we have a winning mentality.”
