Joe Root has called on England’s one-day players to help new captain Jos Buttler guide the team through its current transition phase.

Under new captain Jos Buttler, England lost 2-1 to India in the Twenty20 and 50-over formats and also lost the first ODI against South Africa by 52 runs.

Where Morgan has lost only two home series in one-day cricket during his seven years, Buttler faces the prospect of losing two series in his opening rounds, unless his side plays at Old Trafford on Friday and Headingley on Sunday. doesn’t come back.

Buttler still has five other members of England’s 2019 World Cup winning squad, including Root, Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid, and former Test captain Root looks set to give his best.

Joe Root said, “I’ve been with this team for a long time and it’s a great opportunity for people like me to stand up and fill some of those vacancies.”

Jos is doing a great job, no doubt about it. I think everyone wants to contribute and everyone is behind that. We all have to do our part to change this.

“A lot of changes have happened in a very short period of time and sometimes it can take a while to get used to it. They (Morgan and Stokes) are big personalities, impressive players, and it’s important for people to make the right moves and within the team. Creates great opportunities to place in certain positions, not only in terms of performance, but also in filling those leadership positions.

He said, ‘I think any senior player has this responsibility. Of course this is not in an official capacity, but there are many different ways you can lead, there are many different ways you can help out and be a valuable member of a team.

The good news for England’s hopes of defending their world champion status in India next year is that Root has no intention of becoming the latest player through the exit.

Having last played a T20 International more than three years ago, he is looking forward to making a foray into 50-over cricket.

“That’s exactly how I feel about things. I want to play as often as I can,” he said.
