Jonny Bairstow is an instinctively destructive player. He has quick hands and he uses this strength to play shots all around the ground. Yesterday, he showed his strength with an absolute class against well equipped RCB bowling attack.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) batsman Jonny Bairstow was seen in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Friday. Taking the news of the bowlers of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Bairstow hit a fifty with the help of just 21 balls, six sixes and three fours. This was the fastest fifty of English batsman Bairstow’s IPL career.

Jonny Bairstow was finally dismissed after scoring 66 runs off 29 balls. Bairstow hit seven sixes and four fours in his innings. He was caught by spinner Shahbaz Ahmed at the hands of Mohammad Siraj.

During his record breaking innings, Jonny Bairstow shared an opening partnership of 60 runs in 5 overs with Shikhar Dhawan. Dhawan also contributed 21 runs before being bowled by Maxwell. Punjab Kings  scored a total of 83 runs for the loss of one wicket in the powerplay, in which 59 runs came from Bairstow’s bat. 83 runs is the highest powerplay score in Indian Premier League 2022. This was the fifth highest score by a batsman in the Powerplay. Now, he has joined the list highest score by individual players in the powerplay.

In the mega auction of IPL 2022, Jonny Bairstow was bought by Punjab Kings for Rs 6.75 crore. Bairstow was a part of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the last season of IPL. Jonny Bairstow has so far scored 1240 runs in 37 IPL matches at an average of 37.58, including one century and 9 half-centuries. During this his best score was 114 runs.

In IPL 2008, Sanath Jayasuriya hit seven sixes in the powerplay while playing for Mumbai Indians against Chennai Super Kings. Since then this record was left untouched till now, but now Jonny Bairstow has equaled it. Both the batsmen hit seven sixes. In this case, Suresh Raina’s name comes after these two who hit six sixes in the year 2014 against Punjab Kings while playing for Chennai Super Kings. At the same time, Chris Gayle also hit six sixes in the powerplay against Pune Warriors India in 2012.
