Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has a decision to make after receiving a lucrative contract offer with Jurgen Klopp ready to approve the deal.

Jordan Henderson has been handed the chance to become one of the highest-paid English players in history. This was after receiving an eye-watering contract offer from Al-Ettifaq. The Liverpool captain has been approached by the Saudi Pro League side, who recently hired Steven Gerrard as their new manager. The side is reportedly prepared to offer him a massive contract to prise him away from Anfield this summer.

Henderson is understood to be giving serious thought to joining Gerrard at his new club, which would end his 12-year association with Liverpool since his move from Sunderland in 2011.

The England international has become synonymous with the Merseyside outfit after making 492 appearances for the club and has won nearly every trophy under Klopp’s management, including the Premier League and Champions League. But the 33-year-old has now received a serious offer which would be difficult to turn down.

Al-Ettifaq have submitted a ‘life-changing’ offer that is quadruple what Henderson currently earns at Anfield.

His current salary is understood to be around £140,000 a week. On the other hand, the offer from Saudi Arabia would take him to a whopping weekly wage of £520,000.

The report adds that Henderson is ‘leaning towards’ accepting the contract offer on the table which would see him reunite with his former team-mate Gerrard in the Arabian Gulf.

Klopp has already made plans to overhaul his midfield by recruiting Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai to the tune of around £115million, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner all heading out of the door. The 55-year-old is overseeing a massive regeneration of his team after finished outside of the top four last season.

While Klopp would be reluctant to lose Henderson given his leadership skills in the dressing room and importance on the pitch, he would also not stand in his way to deny him the chance to earn one last lucrative contract.

The Liverpool skipper penned his most recent contract extension in 2021, which keeps him at the club until June 2025. It remains to be seen whether the club would demand a fee for his signature, given the apparent riches Saudi clubs have been given by their backers, the Public Investment Fund (PIF).

In any case, Klopp has already identified his long-term replacement for Henderson should he decide to depart. The club have been in talks with Southampton over a possible move for Romeo Lavia, the 19-year-old who is valued at £50m, although there is yet to be an official bid.
