Mourinho believes Dean Henderson is ready to replace David De Gea as Man Utd’s No. 1 goalkeeper.

They are good goalkeepers

Dean returned to Old Trafford last summer after a successful two-year loan period with Sheffield United, with Ole Gunnar vowing to give him the opportunity to stake his claim to be the first choice role. The United boss has been true to his word as he handed the talented young punchy 26 appearances across all competitions at the last deadline, and Jose Mourinho believes he is now ready to take on David De Gea on a permanent basis. The former head coach of the Red Devils, who is set to take over at Roma this summer after being fired from Tottenham, believes Dean has the potential to become a world-class guardian. Jose thinks they are good goalkeepers, but he doesn’t think they are phenomenal goalkeepers or, in Dean Henderson’s case, not phenomenal yet. When Jose says not yet, he says he will.

A little about Dean Henderson and David De Gea

Dean just shipped 22 goals for the games he played for United in 2020-21, while also recording 12 blank sheets. However, for more important matches – including the Europa League final – Ole Gunnar tended to stick with David. The Spaniard did not hide behind glory when the Red Devils were defeated on penalties by Villarreal, and ended the campaign with just 12 goals in 36 games. At just 24 years old, Dean has youth on his side in his ongoing attempt to become Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for a man on the net, and still has four years left to run for his contract. In contrast, after another flimsy season in Manchester, there have been speculations that the club will welcome offers for 30-year-old David during the summer transfer window. David De Gea has only two years left to run for his deal and has been linked to French champions PSG and Jose Mourinho’s Roma in recent months.
