Jose Mourinho Lauds Tammy Abraham’s influence Stating that leaving Chelsea to Move to a New Nation is “not simple.”
Following his first six months in Rome, Jose Mourinho commended Roma forward Tammy Abraham’s efforts, noting that it had not been easy for the attacker during his Chelsea days.
Following struggles to break into Thomas Tuchel’s squad, Abraham, 24, joined Roma for £34 million last summer, ending a 16-year association with Chelsea.
After falling behind Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, the Englishman decided to go on.
Mourinho, who knew Abraham’s skills from his time as Chelsea manager, gave him an escape path when he joined the Roma squad.
Abraham has established himself as one of Serie A’s most in-form and greatest strikers since his arrival.
He is the leading English scorer in Europe’s top five leagues this season, with 18 goals in all competitions, earning him a recall to the England national team.
Mourinho, on the other hand, believes Abraham has more to offer, claiming that adjusting to Serie A has been difficult for the London-born player.
‘He’s doing a good job, but he can do better.’ He must perform better for the squad. Mourinho described a foreign player as “a foreign player that was born, bred, and performed in a different football, in a different society.”
‘Leaving England is difficult, but he is doing well.’ I have faith in him, but I believe he has far more potential.’
The 24-year-old has admitted that adjusting to life in Serie A has taken time, but that he needed to leave Chelsea for regular game time.
‘It takes a little getting accustomed to at first,’ Abraham said of his early days in Rome to Pro Direct Soccer.
‘However, after a while, you settle down, find a home, and begin to explore and try new eateries.’ I’m having a great time in Rome.’ I get homesick from time to time, which is difficult, but I’m here for a reason: to work. I knew there would come a time when I’d have to leave Chelsea and go exploring.
‘Now that I’ve moved to a new nation and am learning a new culture and language, I’m having a blast.’
On Saturday, Abraham will play for Roma against Hellas Verona at the Stadio Olimpico in Serie A.
