Jurgen Klopp: “we cannot carry on like this”
Liverpool’s manager, Jurgen Klopp said, ‘we cannot carry on like this.’ This after it was decided Liverpool will play two games in two days in December.
Liverpool will face Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup quarter-final on 17th December. This will happen before playing the Club World Cup semi-final in Qatar the following day.
On Friday, Klopp had ruled out the possibility of fielding two different Liverpool sides in two competitions in two continents.
He said, “We gave to find solutions, the problems are obvious.”
“Every year we do the same again. Some find it funny-five games in three days, let’s see how it works out.”
However, a club statement on Tuesday said although it was “not an ideal scenario” the outcome was reached in the “best interests of the competition.”
From 23rd November to 2nd January, Liverpool will face a testing period of 12 games in 37 days in four competitions.
This will be the Premier League, Champions League, EFL Cup and Club World Cup with an FA Cup third-round tie still to be determined in the first week of 2020.
EFL confirmed the date for the last-eight tie against Aston Villa would be kept following a “request from the club.”
Two games in 24 hours?
Having two games in 24 hours brings a wonder of it is possible for fans to do both. Liverpool fans who turn out at Villa Park have two flight options. This would give them a chance of making a kick-off in Qatar.
A flight from Birmingham Airport at 0750hours GMT on 18th December lands in Doha at 1730hours local time. This leaves three hours to get from the airport runway to the stands at Education City Stadium.
The cost of the flight was £614 one way at 2200hours GMT on the 5th of November. The journey from the airport to the stadium is around 30 minutes. So, with smooth progress through security, getting to both games looks possible.
