Jurgen Klopp has ruled Liverpool out of the summer transfer window race to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund, saying that “the numbers involved are just absurd.”

With Haaland and super agent Mino Raiola holding talks with some of Europe’s top clubs over the past few months, Jurgen Klopp revealed that he wants “nothing to do with” a prospective mega-deal.

The former Dortmund boss said, “we won’t be going there.” “The numbers involved are insane, and we’re not going to be a part of it. There’s no way! To be honest, I don’t want to be a part of it. It’s not enjoyable.”

Klopp’s statement reflects his personal views on the astronomical costs of modern sport, with the Reds’ inflexible compensation structure being one of the reasons why talisman Mohamed Salah has been hesitant to sign a new contract. And, while their Egyptian’s future is still up in the air, Haaland appears to be on his way out of BVB during the summer transfer window.

Manchester City are the frontrunners to capture him if his £68 million release clause is activated. Mino Raiola and his client are reportedly wanting £500,000 per week in wages as part of a five-year contract, implying that the transfer would cost at least £277 million.

While Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich are also interested, Pep Guardiola and his team are eager to sign Haaland, despite the fact that the Citizens manager recently expressed frustration when asked about his club’s chances of signing him. “Every month or two months since I’ve been here, they think we’re going to sign 50 players,” Guardiola said.

“Listen, it’s impossible for me to talk about someone who isn’t here right now. He’s a Dortmund player, and we’ve got a fantastic run coming up. The transfer window opens at the end of the season, and a lot of things will happen.” Maybe once in the last 12 months, I mentioned that this team needs a striker for the next five, six, or seven years. I’m not going to be the one who says we were successful or unsuccessful because we lacked a striker. We must play well and come in the box with seven or eight guys. This is the most effective means of scoring goals.”

Since BVB stated that they were astonished by a claim from Haaland that he had been forced by his current employers to make a choice on his future, there has been little word from Germany. In response, Hans-Joachim Watzke, the company’s CEO, stated: “The fact that one or more media outlets claim Dortmund would issue him an ultimatum is complete nonsense.

“It can be tough for a player who has a good command of the German language but does not understand everything to fully comprehend it. Is this something an official said, or is it just media speculation? We’ve now arrived to a stage where 98 percent of the media is based on speculation, and that’s exactly what happened. There isn’t a single issue between us.”
