Jürgen Klopp said his success is due to his father. The Liverpool coach is heartbroken that his father did not see a coach in him.
Jürgen Klopp has conquered another great peak in his brilliant coaching career by winning the English Championship, and, logically, he has been named the Coach of the Year in England.
The 53-year-old German says his success is largely due to his father, Norbert Klopp, who died of cancer in 2000.
‘Unfortunately, he did not see my real, really very successful career.’
“Throughout my active sports career, my father has been my best motivator. He criticized me very strongly, and what I have achieved through playing football is first and foremost his merit. “Unfortunately, he did not see my real, really successful career as a coach,” Klopp said in an interview with The Sun.
Senior Klopp died four months before Jürgen’s appointment in Mainz. “My father never saw me as a coach,” adds Jürgen, “but he was a good coach himself. If someone asked him about me, he would probably say I should become a coach. But my father and I had never talked about it. ”
As time goes on, Jürgen becomes sadder and sadder about his father’s memories: “Do you know what a special story is? “I am 53 years old, and when I look at myself in the mirror from a certain angle, I have a horrible fear, because, in that angle, I look exactly like my father.”
Jürgen continues: “But I was never like my father. All my life, I was like a mother. And suddenly, it changed so radically. “This is real madness.”
