Kevin Campbell urges Klopp to sign Youri Tielemans claiming he has all it takes to be a success at Anfield and a perfect replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum.
Liverpool is ahead of the transfer business after making RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate their first signing of the summer. However, there is still work to be done with Klopp looking to revitalize his squad before the start of the 2021/22 campaign.
Klopp may have nabbed the third spot and qualified for the Champions League next season but he will want to make amends for Liverpool’s meek title defense. There are areas in the squad that need strengthening, not least the midfield where they are set to lose Georginio Wijnaldum.
The 30-year-old’s contract expires this summer and he’s reportedly set to join Barcelona on a free transfer from 1st July. His move is set to leave a huge void in Klopp’s midfield. However, as it stands, Klopp has Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara, Naby Keita, Curtis Jones, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and James Milner to choose from.
Despite the midfield choices, former Arsenal and Everton striker Kevin Campbell believes Liverpool should be vying for Tielemans’ signature claiming he has all it takes to be a success at Anfield. Although he is a different sort of midfielder when compared to Wijnaldum, the Belgium international, Tielemans “would fit in at Liverpool perfectly”. Said Campbell.
“He is a very good footballer and he would be very capable of filling the void left by Wijnaldum. Listen, when you are Liverpool and you lose a player like Wijnaldum, you have to replace him with quality. Wijnaldum is so underrated and when he is not there, Liverpool misses him. Klopp will buy right though. He knows what he needs and he will make a correct purchase”.
