After securing a place in the Champions League semi-finals, Jurgen Klopp has reminded Liverpool that they must step up their game when they face the ‘King of Cups.’

Liverpool drew 3-3 with Benfica at Anfield to reach the final four of this competition for the third time in five years; a 3-1 win in Lisbon last week had given Klopp’s side a considerable lead, and they led by the same score here at one point.

In the last four, Liverpool will face Villarreal, and Klopp had high praise for Unai Emery, predicting a ‘difficult, tough, tough’ struggle from the Spaniards. He understands that his team must improve in order to reach the final on May 28.

‘First and foremost, please knock me out if we qualify for the semis and I’m not happy,’ Klopp said after making seven changes to his lineup. ‘We did a lot of good things, and then this last line never played together, and it’s all about the minutiae, so it’s hard to focus totally.’

‘It doesn’t matter if we played our best game of the season tonight because we didn’t have the 1000 percent mindset.’ Benfica’s three goals were well-deserved. Now that we’ve completed the task, let’s give it our best shot.’

Klopp, who stated Diogo Jota received a ‘knock in the first half,’ was pleased to report no other injuries and was unconcerned about his team’s three goals, especially given that he was essentially playing with a new defense that included Konate, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip, and Kostas Tsimikas.

‘The one thing we knew for sure was that it would be difficult,’ Klopp remarked. ‘This last line was never played together because you lose Virgil’s voice, but the rest and rotation are never an issue, Benfica continued going, and it was crucial for us to be able to make changes and still be successful.’

‘I was watching the Villarreal match. It was truly remarkable. They deserved to be knocked out after kicking out Juventus and Bayern Munich. It’s fantastic; the manager is the king of the cups; we’ll be ready when we play them, but please give me time to prepare properly.’

‘Things like these are never taken for granted. I’m pretty pleased with myself. I know people speak about goals conceded and all that, but if I am not overjoyed about the prospect of reaching the semi-final, something is seriously wrong.’
