As Australia cobbed a heavy defeat against India in the first test at Nagpur, the reminiscence of Justin Langer has come out once again. After Australia went in embarrassment shell against spinners, the whole side including captain Pat Cummins, coach Andrew McDonald and selectors were harshly criticised.

In midst of all this, ex Australian test player tweeted something attentive note which remained everyone of Justin Langer. He wrote on twitter “#justinlanger”.

The Australian team looked under prepared and short of plans as they scored lowest total against India in India. It was also their third biggest loss in India in terms runs margin. In 1998, Australia an innings and 219 runs at Eden Gardens.

The failure to execute well versed plans and insolent batting performance was ripped apart by many Australian greats who expected the team to do better. Mark Waugh and Allan Border said in united voice that Australia should feel embarassed by that loss.

It is not about the loss but the manner it came in. Andrew McDonald hasn’t faced much criticism and there is no questions about his pushing the team through in hard times.

Justin Langer was known for his high spirited gaming plans, he taught resilience and agression rather than staying on back foot when things fall apart and team starts to crumble.

This was the case in the first test match. Langer knew how to inject force and enthusiasm in the dressing room, in the current team set-up, everyone seems to carry poker face.

Former Australian rule football captain Tom Rockliff explicitly stated that “The outrage? The performance would of happened but no one coming for McDonald? Langer would of been hung out to dry,”

Rockliff also went after Matt Renshaw who was seen laughing and giggling after scoring 1 runs in two innings. He said that Travis Head will do more handy job than Renshaw at the moment.

After players voiced their disapproval of his coaching approach and Justin Langer refused a contract extension with a shorter term, Cricket Australia and Langer amicably decided to split ways in February of last year.

Given that Australia had just won the T20 World Cup and successfully defended the Ashes against England at home with a commanding 4-0 series victory, it was unexpected.

Concerns about Langer’s demanding coaching approach, which are also covered in the series, led to his departure at the conclusion of last summer.
