Karunaratne takes 3-wickets as Sri Lanka beat Australia by 26 runs, level series 1-1

Sri Lankan team defeated Australia by 26 runs in the second ODI played on Thursday. Australia won the toss and invited Sri Lanka to bat first. Sri Lanka scored 220 runs in 47.4 overs for the loss of 9 wickets before the match was called off due to rain. 

After this Australia scored 216 runs in 43 overs. Then Sri Lankan bowlers showed a great game and bundled Australia’s innings for 189 runs in 37.1 overs.

Chamika Karunaratne took 3 wickets for 47 runs in 7 overs at an average pace. Dushmant Chamira, Dhananjay de Silva and Dunith Velalez took two wickets each. Chamika was adjudged man of the match. Now the 5-match ODI series is 1-1. The third ODI of the series will be played on June 19 in Colombo.

Earlier, Australian pacemaker Pat Cummins performed brilliantly and failed to make Sri Lanka a big total. He took 4 wickets for 35 runs. 

Glenn Maxwell and Kuhneman took 2 wickets each, while Spencen took 1 wicket. Wicket-keeper batsman Kusal Mendis scored 36 points for Sri Lanka. He hit 2 fours and 1 six in 41 balls. Dhananjay de Silva and captain Dasun Shanaka contributed 34-34 points.

While chasing the target, Australia lost wickets at regular intervals. Opener David Warner scored the highest 37 runs for the team, in which he hit 5 fours in 51 balls.

All-rounder Glenn Maxwell made some effort but he too fell victim to Chamika Karunaratne after scoring 30 points. Maxwell hit 5 fours in 25 balls. Steve Smith scored 28 and Travis Head scored 23 points.
